Shafter Council Short Meeting Addresses Grading and Water
Shafter city council held a brief session mostly finishing in under an hour. Public Works Director Lew Carroll asked to hire an engineer to check subdivision grading on Pine Street noting low house pads and needed drainage. The city may lower the alley grade six inches to fit the grading plan and hire Mason Vancuren and Wachob, with current engineers also involved. A new Elm Street well pump raised water production from 650 to 1025 gpm while efforts to lower another well were halted after an obstruction. Other actions included tabling a false arrest claim, adopting a 140000 property tax levy, approving various expenditures, accepting a land deed for Nickel Street widening, and authorizing 25 police tires.
