New Test Predicts Plant Growth in Alkali Soils
A 60 hour laboratory test developed under Roy Overstreet at the University of California College of Agriculture measures soil toxicity from alkali salts. Radish seedlings germinate then 36 hours later are planted in alkali soil and growth in 24 hours indicates if soil contains excessive alkali. Further work tests applicability to other soils.
