Meeting in the Sun highlights heat safety for Kern farm workers
More than 100 people attended at UC Shafter as State Senator Dean Florez hosted a heat safety meeting with growers, regulators, and farm workers to discuss Assembly Bill 805. The bill would force OSHA to adopt heat illness standards and training, aiming to curb heat deaths amid Kern County agriculture. Arturo Rodriguez of the United Farm Workers backed the measure noting four Kern workers have died from heat exposure and recalling a family memorial at the event.
