Man jailed for drunk driving after failing to pay fine
Walter pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in Shafter on July 30. He was arrested by Patrolman Glenn Holt after his car jumped the curb and he remained jailed this week for failing to pay a $150 fine.

John Walters, 31, of South Shafter, was arrested on a bench warrant for failure to pay a drunk driving fine issued about a year ago. Walters was tracked by Sgt. Claude Mite and sentenced to 82 days in the county jail.

Recreation Commission Plans Sanctioned Baseball in 1957
The Shafter Recreation Commission moved to explore creating a formal baseball league for 1957 following a delegation of local enthusiasts. President Dc Jack Manweiler appointed a committee to assess need and setup, proposing a trial league for boys around ninth grade to transition from softball to hardball.
