Bakersfield Supervisors Set Budgets for County Departments
The Board approved budgets including Fire Department at 8.9 million dollars and County Clerk operations at 1.072 million. Treasurer and Tax Collector allocations were 178 thousand and 277 thousand, respectively, with a 10.65 million general fund budget for Kern General Hospital after denying 48 new positions. Public Works considered a northeast Bakersfield drainage plan funded by the general fund. Supervisor Le Roy Jackson urged residents to pay if they want the service. The flood control seed budget stood at 274.5 thousand, and Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area received 1.028 million, 607 thousand more than recommended. The Employee Association sought 14 additional benefits costing 800 thousand for 1973-74, now under review.
