Shafter FFA Competitions Set for State Judging Finals
Shafter FFA members will compete in the California State Judging Contest Finals on May 2 and attend the state convention May 26 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Judges for livestock, horses, farm power, cooperative quiz, pests, and life cycles are named, with dairy products and floriculture teams unlisted. Top 10 awards will be given at the SLO campus. Delegates include Deene Bittleston, Becky Sapp, Linda Robertson will attend.

KCMS gifts CALM $1000 for DiGiorgio House restoration
At its March 20 meeting the Kern County Mineral Society voted a $1000 donation to the California Living Museum CALM to help finish the DiGiorgio House restoration. The group has gathered exhibits and promised more Kern County rocks and minerals for display. A check was presented to CALM director Kevin H. Hunting at the April 17 meeting.

Landfill Hours Change At County Sites On May Day
County Public Works director L Dale Mills announced all landfills will close one hour later starting May 1 due to longer daylight hours and daylight saving time. From May to August the Shafter Wasco landfill will accept refuse from 8 a.m. to closing. It is unlawful to transport garbage unless it is fully covered to prevent shedding litter. Public cooperation will reduce highway litter.

Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation at Richland Intermediate
On Wednesday April 23 students at Richland Intermediate School evacuated after a bomb threat.
