Kern County Prepares Centennial Celebration of Rugged Frontier Life
Kern County readies a centennial celebration recreating frontier life at Pioneer Village Bakersfield. Events include a Bella Union saloon with authentic furniture, danc ing girls, period store clerks, and courtroom reenactments led by Municipal Court Judge Walter Osborn. Shooters, scouts and Wisdom Dancers perform while Les Weber handles horse ponies at O K Corral. The event harkens to late 19th century Kern County with trials, dances, and saloon life.

Beet Growers Get Million in Payments
Kern County ASCS chairman Mery E. Anderson announces that about 133 million dollars have been paid to beet growers under the Federal Sugar Act. Payments require growers to meet wage, production, and marketing controls, with the act cited as self-supporting and yielding large treasury revenue over thirty years.
