Two Bands to Perform at Shafter High School Concert
A free concert is set for Thursday with the Shafter High School band directed by Mike Hutchinson and the Richland Junior High band led by John Mynatt, both performing at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium. Allen arrived in Shafter Saturday to stay with Harvey Gardner at 730 California Avenue. Gardner was away. Allen entered with a key and found Cox armed with a .38 caliber handgun. Cox allegedly held Allen at gunpoint demanding the mother be fetched, then forced a car trip to Ventura and back to Newhall where Cox walked away. He reportedly told Allen his family would be killed if police were notified. Cox later traveled to Los Angeles, where he kidnapped a juvenile and committed an armed robbery. He was shot twice after a deputy pursuit. Local police were alerted after Cox claimed he had murdered Allen and his mother at the California Avenue address.
