Shafter Council Overturns Planning Commission Parcel Map Denial
The Shafter City Council overturned a Planning Commission denial of Bobby Lewis's parcel map, labeling lot sizes as 93 by 65 feet rather than 108 by 67.5. The error stemmed from an engineer reading from street center instead of the edge, reducing area to 6,045 square feet under the 7,500 minimum unless impractical. The council approved the map 3-0, while residents opposed to apartments supported the division into A-1 lots.

Berg links California water shortage to inaction by Sacramento
Norm Berg told the Shafter Chamber of Commerce that obstructionists in Sacramento caused drought pain. He warned Kern County could lose 200 million in farm revenue and 800 million in total economic impact, with 3,400 permanent jobs and many farm workers affected. He cited 136000 acres at risk, 600 to 800 wells needed, and under 10 percent surface water deliveries. The group urged completing the peripheral canal and repealing the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, a resolution the chamber adopted in support.
