The board proposes annexing land described as Northwest Corner Lot 5 Section 15 Lerdo Highway 139 Kern County with costs shared by owners. Elmer Mettler reported in Germany. notice set for May 14 1945 at Shafter City Hall for public hearing on annexation and related ordinances.
The City of Shafter schedules a public hearing for May 14 1945 at City Hall at 7:00 PM to consider annexing Lerdo out center area described as Lot 4 and Lot 5 West to a point on the West line in Section 15 Township 28 South Range 25 East M D B and M County. Interested parties may attend and present written objections.
Ben Cooper Acting Chief Kern County Fire Department and George S. James Greenhorn District Ranger warn that inflammable material must be disposed of now to prevent grass brush or timber fires. Dried valley grass and foothill growth are increasing fire risk with daily fires possible unless prevention measures are taken promptly.
Aid gala spring tea was held Thursday April 19 at 2 30 pm at the Woman's Clubhouse. Flowers from the garden show created an ornate backdrop for an entertaining program by Mrs Paul Newell and Mrs Fred Henry. Hostesses and committees hosted about 130 attendees.
A Sunday evening fire destroyed a house on the Ben Sill property, about half a mile east of Santa Fe Way on Los Angeles Street. Fire department crews from Wasco and Shafter responded. loss estimated at 1700 to 1800 dollars. The probable cause cited a defective hot water heater. the ant on the property was Z. A. Morrison.
Mrs Christina Unruh celebrated her 65th birthday with a lovely supper at her home Saturday evening. Attending were her son and family W W Unruh Doris Vernon and Billie, two other sons Cornelius and John, daughter and husband Johnnie Schnaidt, and Mattie Heasley of Taft. Lovely refreshments and a delightful evening were enjoyed by all.
Mr and Mrs Ray Wright of Bakersfield visited Sunday evening in the home of Mrs C G Lindquist. Mrs Wright is a sister of Mrs Lindquist.
