Roses Show at Shafter Station Highlighting Budding Stock Tests
The 1929 Shafter Progress reports rose research at the Government Experiment Station in Shafter. L. B. Scott leads tests on budded stock using Odorato, Paul Scarlet, and Ragged Robin, with notable gains in bloom count and plant hardiness. Experiments include cane budding to speed growth and save time, plus eight thousand peach stock trials and Mahaliib cherry stock beds. The farm, additions to the Herbert and Scott homes, and extensive variety display underscore Kern county’s rose culture as a local showpiece.
