The regular child health conference took place Wednesday April 12 at the County Building in Shafter under American Legion Auxiliary sponsorship. Mrs. Ann Perry and Mrs. J. B. Henderson assisted the local doctor and public health nurses. Twenty five pre-school children were examined. seven received smallpox vaccinations and four teen received other immunizations including eleven diphtheria shots. Clinics occur on the second Wednesday each month with appointments by phoning Shafter 887 on Tuesday afternoons. only those with appointments will be seen.
The Baptist Women Mission circle met April 13 at Mrs. William Guenther's home. A devotional and missionary program followed a luncheon. Officers for the coming year begin May 1: president Mrs. Frank Wiebe, vice president Mrs. E V Kattenhorn, secretary Mrs. John Ratzlaff, treasurer Mrs. Floyd Barton.
Miss Leona Reimer daughter of Mr and Mrs John Reicher Shafter and Cpl Anthony G Heller of Milwaukee now at Hammer Field Fresno were married Friday April 14 at 8 pm in the First Mennonite Church of Shafter. The double ring candlelight ceremony was performed by Rev Arthur D Wenger with Miss Jessis Gaede as attendant and Harvey Reimer as best man. A reception followed with music by Mrs Jake Neufeld Vernon Neufeld and Rev Wenger.
