Shafter Bank Bandits Receive 20 Year Federal Sentences
Robert Taylor aged 65 and William C. Crockett aged 35 were sentenced to twenty five years in federal prison each by Judge Cosgrave in Fresno for assaulting Oildale postmaster C M Hamblet during a daylight robbery of the Shafter Bank of America branch on December 28. They had pleaded guilty to threatening Hamblet and clerks with a shotgun during the holdup using a shotgun and revolver. Crockett cried as the denial of stay of execution was announced and Taylor's plea change was refused.
