Senator Dean Florez lauded Kern County Board of Supervisors for backing Senate Bill 926 to ban importing sludge from another county. The board, 4-0 with one absent, supported the measure as it advances in the Legislature. Supervisor Don Maben urged an ordinance to prohibit sludge imports to Kern regardless of SB 926’s fate.
Shafter City Council backed by staff approved a 20 foot landscaping easement at the corner of Highway 43 and Santa Fe Way just south of Los Angeles Avenue. The property owned by Daniel Farms is near sale as city water extension was agreed with shared costs. The easement would secure landscaping on a busy intersection with five stop signs and the city has limited time to finalize the deal.

The Shafter High School Band Booster’s Club will hold its annual fundraiser Silent Auction and Tin Tip Dinner for Buttonwillow and Shafter on Saturday April 23 at SHS Old Gym from 6 p.m. Tickets cost 10 and may be bought by calling Carol Kroeker or Tim Unruh.
