Anglers report striped bass to ten to fifteen pounds at Buena Vista Canal and many fish near the gates early and late. Crappie and catfish runs peak or taper across Buena Vista Lake and Success Reservoir with live baits and jigs, while San Antonio Lake and Nacimiento wake up with white bass and shad lures. Trout in Lake Evans remain larger and season runs to May 1. red ears and nightcrawlers attract steady catches as spawning nears.

Kern County Fair honors Holger Hansen for 35 years of service
Kern County Fair directors unanimously commend Holger S Hansen of Bakersfield for 35 years of unselfish service to the Kern County Fair Junior Livestock Auction Sales Committee. He receives a lifetime fair pass and a plaque for leading the sales effort that last year grossed over 700000 for more than 1000 youths. Hanson's background includes education at Berkeley and Davis and leadership roles in Shafter Arvin and Wasco civic clubs.
