Trustees push for reading gains at Shafter High
Richland Board of Trustees voiced concern over eighth graders at Shafter High School reading below level. Only 23 of 288 eighth graders read at or above grade eight, while 124 scored between grades 2 and 6 and 141 between 6 and 8. Trustees discussed competency standards, testing practices, and parent conferences as steps to improve achievement. A public hearing on district unification is planned for April 20 in the Richland cafeteria.
