Public awareness raises foster care need in Kern County
Kern County reports 10,193 referrals in 1988 for child neglect, physical or sexual abuse, with about 400 cases entering foster care. Of those, two thirds move to permanency planning as families fail reunification. There are 1,600 dependent children, 392 foster homes, and a need for more foster homes. Foster parents like Shilletto, Ellis, Nightingale, and Sharp share rewarding experiences of aiding family reunification and teaching children love and responsibility. Contact Ed Shilletto at 321-3478 for information.
