Man Arrested in Jackson County Motors Garage Burglary
Clarence Wright thirty one of Uniontown pleaded guilty to a burglary and an attempted break in at Jackson County Motors in the early hours. He admitted to officers at state police post that he entered Avenue Cafe by breaking a window, stole pennies wine whiskey and two-fifths, and discarded some alcohol near the Greyhound bus station. Wright was captured inside the garage after guards heard glass breaking and saw him trying to flee with a car, leading to his arrest and storage in Jackson county jail.

Memorial Rites At Police Post Honor Fallen Indiana Officers
Memorial services were held at Seymour State Police Post No. 7 for all Indiana State Police members who died or were killed since the force’s establishment. The ceremony occurred during the post’s monthly inspection led by Capt. William Thompson with Lt. Joe Schwartz handling equipment checks. Honored were George A. Forrester killed in 1941, John R. De Long who died in 1935, and Herbert W. Smith killed in 1946 near Shelbyville. Lt. Harry McMillin, post commander, organized the observance.

Wildlife habitat leases expand in Indiana counties
Indiana reports 1 184 wildlife habitat areas totaling 6 698 acres with about 30 new leases monthly. Jackson County added leases since October with 10 acres from Raymond Sandefur, Browns town RI. Trustees Rename Isaacs Hanner to Join Jackson County Tax Board
Jackson county trustees acting through the county board of education appoint John Isaacs of Seymour as the education board representative on the 1948 tax adjustment board. Isaacs also served last year in the same role. Lester Hanner of Kurtz is reappointed as Jackson county attendance officer. Other tax board members include F. C. Foster of Browns Town Louis R. Cordes of Seymour Ray Peters of Driftwood township and Harmon Hackman all reappointed by Judge George H. Gossman. Mayor Donald L. Herwig remains a member by office and one seat remains to be filled by the county council. The board will meet the second Monday in September to review the 1949 budgets.
