A Seymour High School girl, Orpha Motsinger, 15, died in a Br idgie s Bar fire that also injured her mother Lillie Motsinger, 55, who jumped from a second story window. The blaze started in the kitchen and caused over 10 000 dollars in damage. Dorothy Motsinger escaped unhurt.

Deadline Passes On Wheat Loans In Jackson County
Jackson county farmers surrendered 12 540 bushels of wheat to the government as the April 30 deadline for loan repayments passed. Four Die as Auto Carries Indianapolis Group Toward Derby
Four Indiana residents bound for the Kentucky Derby were in a one car crash on U S Road 31 north of Reddington Bartholomew county. Eva P Buster Juanita Byers 32 Howard Anson Merritt 30 died instantly James H Mayes owner of the car in critical condition at Bartholomew County Hospital Columbus. The car failed to negotiate a curve near Sand Creek bridge and overturned after striking a guard rail post. Byers was wedged between the left door and the car interior.

Man Arrested After Auto Theft in Scottsburg
A man giving the name Glen Jerratt and address Frank lin was arrested within ten minutes of allegedly stealing a car in Scottsburg Friday night by Sgt. Clifford E. McCory of the Seymour state police post. He was found in the 1949 stolen auto and is also wanted in Scottsburg for a forged check, state police said.

Old Trilby a cow owned by J. B. Anderson Elizabethtown R1 wandered onto U S Road 31 in Bartholomew County and was struck by a southbound Trailways bus from Chicago driven by Russell Barnett 33 of Steger Illinois. The bus carried 24 colored people to Churchill Downs. Only the cow was injured fatally. Bus damage estimated 300 to 500 dollars. Officers Vernis N. Purcell and Frank B. Gray investigated.
