Dr Joseph M Black administers measles vaccine to one year old Beth Ann Thomas at Seymour Jackson school Sunday afternoon. Mrs Estal Percival county health nurse holds the child, daughter of Harman and Mrs Thomas of 220 Emerson Drive.
A total of 252 children received free measles vaccine at the first of three scheduled clinics Sunday at Seymour Jackson Elementary School. Doctors Black and Bobb administered the injections and were assisted by county health staff. Two more clinics are planned for May 12 at Brownstown Central High School and May 19 at Crothersville High School from 1 to 4 p.m.
Two Seymour men, Roy G. Arbuckle and Paul W. Selfridge, were arrested on professional gambling charges after a downtown raid. Arbuckle received a six month sentence at Putnamville with probation and a $200 fine. Selfridge was fined $20. Both posted $1,000 bond and were jailed briefly before court appearances following an anonymous tip.
Polls open at 6 a m and close at 7 p m for the 1968 county primary in 19 precincts as voters choose and presidential preference attention focuses on the Democratic ticket. With warm 70s weather, about 20 083 registered voters may vote, up 1 443 from 1966. Voting places listed for Jackson and Brownstown townships and other townships include Riley Elementary Lincoln Elementary Seymour Jackson School Shields Gym and more.
Indiana's presidential primary tightens the scramble for the Democratic nomination. Kennedy and McCarthy race to rally support with last minute tours and a television blitz while Gov. Branigin campaigns in Lafayette and Indianapolis. McCarthy forecasts victory but sees Oregon and California as decisive.
Paul W. Eggers of Seymour and Wichita Falls won the Republican nomination for Texas governor in the recent primary. He secured 63 633 votes, defeating John Trice with 28 080 and Wallace Sisk with 10 113. Eggers, 48, has been active in Texas Republican circles and supported John Tower’s Senate campaigns.
Mary McCarthy campaign swing for Senator Eugene McCarthy draws about 60 residents to Seymour Elks Club. She outlines a bottom up movement and four pillars housing education health care and employment. She and Wendy Robineau head to Nebraska Oregon and California with 21 college student volunteers visiting 3100 homes in Seymour Brownstown and North Vernon.
Defense attorney Robert N. Skinner filed a motion to discharge John H. Linn of Seymour on first degree murder charges in the August killings of his three children. The filing cites six months’ pretrial detention and alleged speedy-trial violations as grounds, with Linn awaiting juror selection. The case lists Henderson Creek area bodies found after Linn’s confession at the Seymour state police post. The federal urban planning grants totaling 115657 dollars were approved for 10 Indiana communities.
Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann Stout 16 Crothersville R2 were held at Kovener Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Wood officiating. She died at Louisville General Hospital from injuries in a two car crash near Scottsburg on April 23, the second death from the accident. Charles Combs 19 Scottsburg died April 24 at Louisville Hospital. Janet Lee Mullins and Wyanna Kay Mullins, cousins of Stout, remain hospitalized in Louisville with serious and fair conditions. The crash occurred about 10:50 p.m. April 23 when Combs attempted to turn into a trailer court near Scott County Hospital and collided with Janet Mullins’ car. Stout was born January 24, 1952 in Seymour and lived with the Roy Monroes in Crothersville R2. She was a Crothersville High freshman. Additional survivors include siblings Floyd D Stout, Dennis Bowman and Teresa Dawn Bowman, and grandparents Ivan Stout and Mrs Elizabeth Spall.
