Heavy East Fork White River flooding slowly recedes from Jackson County while Rockford reports 17.5 feet at 7 am, down from 18.6 after a Thursday crest. One Jackson County family was evacuated by state police by boat as floodwaters surrounded their home northeast of Brownstown. Five state highways remain closed due to White and Muscatatuck river flooding. A cold snap is forecast with near zero temps returning tonight and light snow, after a 48 degree high on Thursday.

Local Woman Hurt In Car Train Crash In Seymour
A Seymour R2 woman, Bertha Stahl, 62, was injured in a Thursday afternoon car train collision at the St Louis and Jeffersonville cross and admitted in fair condition to Sehneck Memorial Hospital. The incident marks the eighth car train crash in Seymour since December.

Man Injured In 165 Accident On Interstate 65 Near Crothersville
George Smith, 40, of Indianapolis, was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a 10:35 p m crash on Interstate 65 one mile north of Crothersville. He had facial and head lacerations with possible fractured ribs and was listed as fair. His 1950 car left the northbound roadway, hit two road markers, then the rear of a parked 1963 tractor trailer belonging to Robert K. Virgin, 29, of Clarksville. Vehicle damage approx 125 dollars. trailer slightly damaged.

Arraignments for Willie Ruth and Keith Mobley in the axe slaying of Harvey Carmichael have been reset for March 16 in Brown County. Ruth and Mobley, both Columbus residents, face second degree murder and accessory charges after Carmichael, a 44 year old father of six, was found near a Brown County cabin last August. Ruth wrecked Carmichael’s car, leading to his arrest at a Franklin hospital.

Supersonic training flights by SAC B 58 Hustler bombers from the 305th Bomb Wing out of Bunker Hill AFB Indiana run a long route from Rockdale New York to Cleveland Ohio to Cincinnati Ohio to Farmington Missouri. Residents reported a loud boom around 8 15 p m for the past two nights warning had been given for daily booms from March 4 through June 30. Flights may occur almost daily along the 40 mile wide corridor with limited hours to 10 p m to 6 a m. The bombers travel Mach 1 300 miles per hour at altitudes above 35 000 feet.
