Jackson County Board OKs projects and bridge replacements
Jackson County commissioners at Brownstown approved several projects pending county council final approval. They propose transferring 13 021 from the grader and backhoe fund to buy two highway department trucks and replacing three bridges at an estimated 15 000 total. Bridges 25A 73B and 205A would cost 2 500 4 000 and 7 200 respectively with potential deficits funded from the cumulative bridge fund. The board also budgeted 4 500 for 1974 as a contribution to the Comprehensive Health Planning Council Inc. Present were Herschel L Rotert chairman Harry Schepman and Earl A Goecker.

Exhibit obtained for fair in Jackson County
Edgar Hackman president of the Jackson County Fair Board announced after a Monday night meeting at the fair grounds office that the Lilly Drug exhibit has been secured for the 1973 fair. Loyd Jones reported on procurement of the exhibit which features slides and a tape recording about addictive drugs used statewide to combat the issue.

Homecoming Set For POWs at Clark Air Base
Eighty of the 106 American prisoners of war freed by North Vietnam this week will fly to the United States on Wednesday. Planes will depart from Clark for Andrews Air Force Base, Scott Air Force Base, Kelly Field, and Travis Air Force Base, carrying 20 men each between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. local time.

Seven Driver Injuries in Seymour Traffic Mishaps
Seymour police investigated three Monday crashes with driver and passenger injuries. John A. Mills, 26, and two passengers suffered minor injuries after his 1970 sedan ran a red light at West Tipton and Walnut streets, colliding with William S. Koerner, 24. In a Freeman Field lot crash, Vennie McIntosh, 39, and Ora L. Schwade, 43, both vehicles damaged. two passengers reported back and leg pain. McIntosh backed into Schwade’s wagon while parking. no severe injuries reported.

Vernon residents chose their town leaders on Monday with mayor Everett Wiles defeating Thomas Gosman. Incumbent Robert Rockey did not seek re election while James M Bales won the first ward and James Dailey the second ward. Joe Lunsford retained the third ward seat as no opposition stood. Alyne Steele was reelected clerk treasurer and Ivory Sandefur remained town marshal. Voting ran 11 am to 6 pm at the town firehouse.

Indiana Senate Revamps Bowen Tax Plan Amid Uncertainty
The Indiana Senate Finance Committee, controlled by Republicans, rewrites Gov. Bowen’s tax package to shrink local option tax relief and raise corporate levies.
