Engineer Is Praised For Idea In Seymour Board Meeting

City engineer Jerry Tracey received praise from the Seymour board of public works and safety for proposing a minimum set of construction standards for parking lots subdivisions and related developments. He noted discussions with other civil engineers and said the city can quickly show developers the required specifications. The board also approved curb and gutter work for Notting's Super Valu Foods parking lot and granted sewer credit for one pool fill to offset water not returning to the sewer. Nine sewer connections were approved including Spoor Toppe Birch and Golden Key Apartments among others.

Queen Entries Close Friday for 1977 Jackson County Fair Pageant

Entries for the Jackson County Fair Queen Pageant must be submitted by Friday midnight to Mrs. Gerald Hackman or Miss Beth Bowman. Contestants and escorts will receive rehearsal times by telephone, with modeling and makeup sessions at Brownstown Church, publicity photos at the fairgrounds, and the pageant on Sunday July 31 followed by the coronation at the grandstand.

The Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital Foundation annual meeting elected officers for the coming year. New officers are Carl Kovener president Thelma Martin first vice president Marion K Summers second vice president James Thompson third vice president Miss Helen Robertson secretary and Clifford Osterman treasurer. Replacement Of County Bridges Is Recognized

Five bridges in Jackson County are recognized by the Indiana state highway commission for replacement. The projects, part of a capital improvement program, include bridges over Hough Creek Salt Creek and three over Ripers Creek on Ind 135. Construction may start in seven to ten years after four project phases.

Carter halts B1 production but keeps testing program

President Carter announced that production of the B1 bomber should not continue while testing and development proceed. He also endorsed deploying the cruise missile and a submarine launched version as part of an ongoing weapons program amid SALT talks with the Soviet Union. Plan Board Approves Sawmill Ordinance in Jackson County

The plan commission approved a sawmill ordinance seven to one and forwarded three confinement hog feeding petitions to the zoning appeals board for public hearings on July 19. Special exceptions granted for Tom Disque Curtis Rieckers and Rough Acres Inc. A variance was approved for Steve Brock to build a two acre house west of Knobs Overlook in forest recreation area.

Seymour High Summer Session Ends Then Resumes

The first semester of Seymour High School summer session ends Friday. After a three day holiday weekend, students enroll Tuesday for the second summer semester through July 29. Courses include biology II US history I II government health physical education and driver education. Remedial reading for elementary students has a July 4 break then resumes at Emerson school July 11 through 29. About 140 students from five public and three parochial schools attend.

Indiana license plates transition to 1977 design

By midnight tonight Hoosier drivers must display the new 1977 plates with green lettering on white and a yellow state silhouette. Plates are issued on a staggered schedule by last name initial, February through June, with house car and mobile home plates renewed in the owner’s registration month.

First Term Summer Band Program Ends

Over 225 bandsmen complete the first term of Seymour Community Schools summer band program as director Stephen F E McGrew outlines schedules from beginner to ninth grade with free lessons and marching fundamentals. The program began June 4 and ends Friday July 1 with a second term set August 8 to start fall classes.
