Tornado watch and damage as Indiana storms hit counties

Severe weather uproots trees and disrupts power across Jackson and surrounding counties. One man, Stephen M. McCreary, 25, died in Crawfordsville while clearing debris during the storm. Tornadoes touched down near Crawfordsville and Indianapolis, with 44 funnel cloud sightings reported and 20 000 power outages in ILP service area. Authorities warn residents of watches and warnings and urge radio and TV checks.

Indiana In Aviation Air Show Preps At Freeman Field

The Indiana Sport Aviation Association plans an Independence Day weekend air show at Freeman Field with performances by civilian pilots. Preparations begin Friday with tents and tie downs, camps set by 10 a.m. July 2. Events run Friday through Sunday, with balloon launch, pilot briefings, trophy races, spot landings, bomb drops, jumpers, aerobatics, and warbird displays plus Jet flyovers by the Air National Guard. Camps and public camping welcome, with schedule updates to follow.

Pageant casting begins for Star Spangled Days at fairgrounds

About 150 county residents packed the first cast meeting Tuesday night in the fairgrounds show arena. Over 300 locals will join the production set for July 27 28 and 29 with four male narrators still sought. Rehearsals start July 6 at 7 30 p m and run via July 13 20.

Tryouts Set for Our Town by County Theatre

Jackson County Community Theatre announces auditions for Our Town to be staged in Seymour. Tryouts start 7 p m Thursday at Royal Off The Square in Brownstown, with performances August 14 15 and September 3 5 during local events. About 12 men 8 women and several children are needed. no prior experience required.

Area Library Board Adjusts Yearly Budget

The Southern Indiana Area Library Services Authority SIALSA lowered its planned budget from 69 114 to 60 000 for the coming year and plans an Aug 18 appeal to ALSA for two items the American Library Association membership 40 and a part time librarian 5000 for the Columbus Reference Center. The board will merge future meetings with continuing education and set Sept 13 at Greensburg high school with a youth services program.

Legal Services Board to Fill Four Vacancies

A committee was named at a special meeting of Legal Services, Inc. to fill four board vacancies created by resignations. Four board members quit on Monday citing insufficient representation of low income persons. Resignations named Ellen Wright and William S. Miller along with Charlotte Spurgeon and Janie Johnson.

Youth Day at Jackson County Fair Planned for Aug 5

Thursday August 5 youth from the 1975-76 high schools are invited to the Jackson County Fair for Youth Day. Activities include volley ball tug of war human wheel barrow sack relay stilt walking and water balloon race with points awarded to winners and a grand prize for one county school.

Plan commission approves Rose Acre Farms project

Victor Rigterink of Rose Acre Farms asked for zoning approval to build a 114 acre laying operation in Hamilton Township. The plan commission unanimously endorsed the proposal, with 32 buildings to house about 85 000 hens each and offices in Brownstown court.

Ford Approval Could Freeze Payroll Withholding Tax

President Ford's signature on a fast-tracked tax bill would freeze withholding rates at their current level through Sept. 1 while Congress refines a broad tax revision. SIHSA Approves Guideline and Hears Reports in French Lick

The Southern Indiana Health Systems Agency board approved a three inch health planning guideline for future programs. The project review committee led by Frank Runge discussed multiple proposals including Bartholomew County Alternatives drug program and the Big Brother Big Sister effort in Jackson and Bartholomew counties. The 70 bed Loogootee nursing home proposal was disapproved under Hill Burton. CHPs in Indiana are dissolved and Region XI assets will be redistributed to SIHSA. Col. 6 back page.
