Three Indianapolis gypsies Dina Ziko 26 Dewey Miller 19 Annie Miller 19 arrested after robbing farmer John Mellenbruch near Cortland and later identified in two more Jackson and Bartholomew county thefts. Bond set at 500 each. Officers recovered cash totaling 113.88 from the 1941 sedan.
Funeral services for 75 year old Mrs. Carrie Miller Hancock former Seymour resident will be held Tuesday at 2 PM from Tower Funeral Home with Rev Clyde S Black officiating Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery Friends may call after 7 PM tonight She died Saturday at Edna Kansas after months of illness She was born March 18 1867 near Seymour daughter of Diederick and Mary Miller both deceased She married William H Hancock in Seymour November 1 1908 He died in 1937 She and her husband lived in Edna since shortly after marriage She was active in Trinity Methodist Church later joined the Edna church Surviving are a step son Arthur B Hancock of Edna Kans three brothers Louis Miller Seymour Fred Miller and Edward Miller Seymour rural routes and two sisters Mrs Katie Borcherding Seymour rural route and Mrs Frank Heideman Seymour
The Seymour Rotary Club holds its regular weekly meeting at 6 15 tonight at the Elks Home on West Second Street. It will be the last meeting of the year with new officers taking over next week. Retiring president H R Ringler will preside and Frank Spangel will head the program.
The military changes the send-off practice to occur when draftees depart for actual training after being accepted for service. Nine days remain in effect for processing.
July 4 will be a full holiday in Seymour with downtown stores closing all day Saturday after staying open late Friday night. No organized city wide celebration is announced, but staff are given the day off as the last holiday for months according to Saturday edition of The Daily.
Bids today on laying a spur from the Pennsylvania railroad into the Advanced Twin Engine School area near Seymour indicate Acme Construction Company of Cleveland will receive the contract. Ground has begun for warehouses, with Shelby Construction Company of Shelbyville pushing the project. Work on the spur is expected to start soon. exact date not set.
A spokesman for the Greek government in exile said sixty two Greeks were shot in Candie Crete on charges of sabotage as Germans stage mass air landings. Among the executed were the mayor editor of the local newspaper a bank director and a school teacher.

The House appropriations committee sent to the floor a $1.83 billion supply bill to lift national defense outlay toward about $228 billion since June 1940. The measure provides funding for nearly twenty war agencies for the fiscal year starting July 1, with many agencies previously operating on emergency allocations.
An Associated Press dispatch from Washington reports President Roosevelt has extended the nationwide rubber salvage drive by ten days due to disappointing collections. The drive, originally ending June 30, will now continue through July 10 after totals through Saturday reached 219 000 tons.
Jackson county lags June bond sales with about 59 000 dollars raised of a 67 200 quota leaving roughly 8 000 short with only one day left. C G Einwedel, executive chairman, urges immediate purchases and a 12 noon Wednesday bond blitz to push the county into a higher July quota of 33 100 and a state total of 18 800 000.
Beginning Tuesday at 7 AM through 9 PM Jackson county youths aged eighteen to twenty will register for possible military service. Centers are at the Wehstage Building Brownstown courthouse and Medora Crothersville and Freetown schools. About 3,000,000 youths nationwide will sign up under the selective service program, leaving the country with roughly 43,000,000 men aged eighteen to sixty five. Tomorrow’s registration covers youths eighteen and nineteen and twenty year olds born between December 31, 1921 and June 30, 1922, with draft eligibility for twenty year olds. An amendment to the selective service law may be needed for the younger group. Brig. Gen. Hershey signals possible need. The questions repeat the ones asked of elders.
Moscow reports a fourth spring offensive aimed at Kursk, Voronezh, and Sevastopol as German forces press a long Russian line. Soviet troops counter in Kharkov region while Sevastopol endures brutal bombardment. field hospitals are opened at Simferopol to treat wounded.
FBI announced arrests of several contacts and associates tied to eight Nazi saboteurs landed by U boats on the east coast. The roundup follows the seizure of pay, plans to blow up rail centers and war plants, and identifies the eight agents and their Florida and New York footholds.
Two women arrested while walking along U S Road 31 south of Crothersville were fined for public intoxication in John Russell Brownstown Justice of the Peace court. Myrtle Colvins sixteen of Austin vicinity was fined 1 dollar plus costs 10 dollars total. Lucy Lawless of Austin vicinity pled guilty and was fined 1 dollar plus costs 9.75 dollars. Officers Gene Cox and Jack Curry of the Seymour state police post filed the cases.
Navy tallies show greater Japanese losses at Midway than initially reported. Four aircraft carriers Akagi Kaga Soryu Kiryu were sunk, plus two heavy cruisers Mogami Mikuma and several destroyers and a transport vessel. Unofficial death estimates reach 18,000 or more.
London reports RAF raiders struck the German submarine base at St Nazaire in a night operation following the Bremen assault. British air forces also targeted northern French airfields and rail targets with one RAF loss. Bremen’s port suffered massive fire and ruin after a string of raids, with eleven RAF planes lost in the weekend action.
The United States bombers attacked Japanese occupied Wake Island in the Pacific last Saturday damaging the airfield and shore installations. All planes returned safely.
The German high command said the British fortress of Matruh fell after stubborn resistance. Fighting spread across a large area southeast and southwest of Matruh as Rommel aimed to outflank the British. Both sides used mobile forces, artillery and air power, with the Royal Air Force aided by U.S. bombers striking German lines and supply routes.
