William Mackey aged seventy four a well known Cortland area farmer died at his home three miles southwest of Cortland at 6 10 Saturday night after a two year illness. Funeral services will be at White Creek Methodist Church with Rev George Winkenhofer and burial in White Creek Cemetery. He was born January 8 1862 in Indiana son of Henry and Mary Mackey and married Emma Mellencamp September 18 1903 at Peters Switch. He leaves Emma his widow ten children Stella Tate Mabel Butler Harry Mackey Ella Carr Earl Mackey Roy Mackey Raymond Mackey Willard Mackey Paul Mackey and Verna Bauerle and four sisters. Mrs. Emma A. Carter, eighty two, longtime Seymour resident, died at her son Travis E. Carter’s home at 12 55 this morning after a stroke that began Friday. Born in Birmingham England, she came to America at seventeen and married Civil War veteran Benjamin Carter in Seymour on December 10 1876. Surviving are three of seven children and her husband’s family, with sons Travis Tevis and Arthur B. Carter directing Carter interests in Seymour and Charles E. Carter operating the Carter Stone Company in Indianapolis. The obituary notes her active community role.

Five men fined for 105 foot seine fishing near Madden Hill
Harman Tenbrook Daniel Tenbrook Noia Greathouse Jacob Greathouse and Orville Greathouse pleaded guilty in Seymour justice court to seining fish with a 105 foot seine. Each was fined 10 dollars plus costs totaling 23.80 after wardens Phillip Crecelius and Jess Crecelius nabbed them near Wehstage bayou. About thirty pounds of fish were seized and the men had previously fished the same spot a week earlier.
