Crash North of Scipio Kills 3

A head on collision three miles north of Scipio on Indiana 7 in Jennings County left three dead. Barbara Waltz 19 and her husband Lee 23 died of multiple injuries while Juanita Griffin 29 was killed by a skull fracture. Investigating officers named Trooper Paul Jewitt Sheriff Clyde Perkins and Coroner Richard Vance.

Youths Arrested For Possessing Alcohol

Three area youths aged 16 and 17 were fined for minor possession of alcohol after Deputy Garry Ault arrested them at Starve Hollow Lake. Two additional 15 year olds were cited and will appear in Juvenile Court. The group faced fines of $25 plus costs for beer and whiskey.

Showers Likely Here Tonight

A chance of showers was forecast for the local area tonight and Tuesday as humid heat in the 90s continued this afternoon. The five day outlook called temperatures near normal in the south and below normal in the north with rainfall of up to three quarters of an inch mid week.

Kaub Involved in Auto Crash With Truck in Columbus

Arthur L Kaub 71 of Columbus was driving when his car was hit by a truck driven by 20 year old John McCulloch of Clarksville. The Vet From Post Home driveway exit led to the collision causing 175 dollars damage to Kaub’s car and 200 dollars to the truck.

Works Board Retires Bond On Parking Lot Purchase

The Seymour Board of Public Works and Safety retired the fourth $1,000 revenue bond issue for land purchase of the city off street parking lot. The board also granted approval to Blanche G. Eckstein to have a large elm tree removed from the front of her residence.

U.S. Transport Downed Near Saigon in Viet Nam

Guerrilla fire felled a twin engine C123 aircraft east of Saigon killing two U.S. servicemen and leaving 16 bodies recovered from the wreckage. The crash occurred near a farmhouse as combat continued in the area.

Five Hoosiers Drown In Weekend Mishaps

Five Hoosiers drowned over the weekend in separate incidents across Indiana and nearby areas. Edward Redermacher, 20, Munster, died in Beverly Shores at Indiana Dunes Park after swimming in ten feet of water. Paul Hess, 37, Lawrenceburg, drowned near the Great Miami River junction with the Ohio River west of Cincinnati. Anthony Alozas Jr., 11, Hobart, perished in Lake Wauhole while swimming toward a raft 100 feet from shore with friends. Mark Walters, 9, North White River near Lawrenceport, and Martin Peyton, 56, Mitchell, reported missing after a possible vehicle incident at a Brown County State Park launch ramp.

Seymour City arrests three on weekend charges

Seymour city police report six arrests over the weekend with three appearances in city court led by Judge William Jones. Bennie L. Seale faced a dis orderly conduct warrant, Ira E. Andrew and Cleo Wilson were fined for public intoxication, Ronald L. Wells charged with reckless driving, Herman York fined for speeding, and Leland Vincent Jr. cited for disregarding a stop sign. Barbara R. Barbour appeared and was fined for public intoxication. a six month term in Indiana Women’s Prison was noted.

Freetown PTA hosts a three day Fourth of July gala with cakewalks auctions and music by the Flightliners on Friday night. Two Motorists Arrested In Three Crashes

State troopers from the Seymour post investigated three property damage accidents in Jackson County during the weekend. Willard E. Abel, 20, Cortland, Alabama, was charged after his car struck two gasoline pumps and Harbaugh's Garage at Freetown on Ind 58 at 11 40 p m. His vehicle left the road turning west.

Six young scientists prepare for Apollo program

Houston is set to host a news conference at the Manned Spacecraft Center next Tuesday as six young scientists begin Apollo program preparations. Two pilots will start astronaut training at the center while four others head to Williams Air Force Base, Arizona, for a year of flight training.

Two Injured In Starve Hollow Beach Mishaps

Two Bedford men were injured at Starve Hollow Lake beach on Sunday afternoon. Larry V. Davis, 21, was in fair condition at Robert Long Hospital Indianapolis after a spinal injury from a waist deep dive and head impact. He was airlifted from Schneck Memorial to Indianapolis hospital. Mark Love, 8, sustained a right arm contusion from a beach slide fall and was treated and released from Seymour hospital.

Car Hits Pole on O'Brien Street

A one car accident Sunday at 4 45 p m on OBrien Street left a utility pole damaged and property valued at 150 dollars. Mil lard L Alves 38 of 103 East Harrison Street was driving south and pulled left fearing a truck would pull out from the right.

Harry Brewer Returns to Farm on Public Intoxication Charge

Harry Brewer of Browns town is sent back to the Indiana State Farm after arrest on public intoxication. He had just completed a 30 day sentence for the same charge and was arrested early Sunday morning. The 60 day sentence by Judge Jonathan J. Robertson includes costs.

Harvest Crothersville Crops New Combine Loaned To School

A new Oliver 525 self propelled combine is loaned to Crothersville School to harvest about 110 acres on the school's experimental farm. The Jack son County Farm Bureau Co op provides the equipment with a corn picker head and a tractor. The loan supports training for boys in farm machinery operation and care for part time work with farmers. Observers include Don Pennington Bill Bobb James Black and Harold Kimbrell.
