Moonshine Still Destroyed on Jackson County Farm
A 50 gallon moonshine still was confiscated and destroyed by Indiana excise agents and federal officers on Frank Aliano’s farm four miles west of Medora in western Jackson County. Aliano, 48, was arrested on the land and said he knew nothing of the illicit operation. Authorities found 450 gallons of mash nearby and indicated the case involves possession of an illegal still.

Seymour residents and property owners must pay delinquent sewer bills and Barrett Law payments by 5 p m Friday June 30. On Saturday morning all delinquent accounts will be certified to the Jackson County auditor for collection with taxes. 270 delinquent sewer bills are outstanding and 33 Barrett Law payments were delinquent. Unpaid bills will be added to taxes and subject to a penalty.

Tri County Meet to Plan Monroe Reservoir Roads Friday

Peter's Switch Names New Nazarene Pastor
The Rev. Paul L. Hoskins of Salem has accepted the pastorate at Peter's Switch Church of the Nazarene north of Seymour near U.S. 31-A. He will start duties Saturday and preach his first sermon Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The Hoskins moved into the parsonage Monday, succeeding Rev. Cordell Hudson who left in June for Morrilton Arkansas. Hoskins previously led the Roachdale church in Indiana for four years and first pastored Haleysburg in Washington County. He graduated from Olivet Nazarene College in 1954 and is married to Frances Duncan with two sons Allen and Roger.

Contracts Awarded for U.S. 31 Resurfacing in Indiana
Indiana highway commission opened bids totaling over 5 million for bridge and road work including resurfacing on U.S. 31 in Jackson and Scott counties. Scott County firm R. B. Truck of Scottsburg won a Jackson County contract for 7.784 miles at 75,916 and also the Scott County resurfacing project at 78,823. The state engineer’s estimate for all Tuesday awards was about 6.04 million.

Two 16 Year Old Seymour Boys Arrested

Jackson County and Indiana posted near normal June temperatures but forecasters warned showers will rise this week and likely bring cooler weather just before the July 4 holiday. Temperatures rose to 84 in the area and 86 in Evansville with nights near 55. A five day outlook calls for scattered afternoon and night showers with a cooling trend and half an inch total rainfall. White River level at Rockford was 2.5 feet and still falling.
