Heavy rains drenched Indiana with up to seven inches in places causing flash floods. A commuter bus was carried into a creek at Zionsville, drowning two women and trapping others. Rescuers pulled survivors from a roof hole as rivers rose across the state.
The Spirit of St Louis, a Pennsylvania passenger train, passed Seymour this morning over the Baltimore and Ohio lines toward St Louis. Officials report about four pole lengths of track washed out by heavy rain between Terre Haute and St Louis. Water was deep over the tracks and rain continued. Passenger trains to and from St Louis will use the B and O via Seymour until the tracks are restored.
The Red Cross bloodmobile visit to Seymour yielded 130 pints from 132 donors at the American LegionHome. The drive exceeded Jackson county's 103 pint quota by 27 pints and marked the last visit of the current fiscal year. Local doctors nurses aides and volunteers assisted, with Drs. Baxter Ripley and Graessle among physicians.
Carl Plummer reelected president and Omer H. Terkhorn as vice president at the Brownstown Chamber of Commerce annual dinner. William Sharp becomes secretary treasurer. three new directors — Thomas Kieffer Jonathan Robertson and John Hamer — join, with two others retiring. A full slate of committee reports followed and a board meeting is planned for July 1.
INDIANAPOLIS State Traffic Safety Director Albert E Huber urged motorists to drive with extreme caution when approaching bridges covered by high waters. He warned bridges may go out before night with two river bridges and one railroad bridge already washed out.
Crothersville observes its oldest resident Wilson Morrison marking his 102nd birthday quietly at home after an accident in May left him bedridden. The longtime farmer moved to Crothersville 57 years ago and remains active in memory, with two daughters Merald and Ethel remaining by his side.

Seymour Lions Club held a fish fry Thursday night at the Jackson County State Forest fire tower picnic area. Inclement weather reduced attendance but did not dampen the enthusiasm of those who attended.
