City School Superintendent and Wife Killed in Crash
Prominent Seymour couple dies in a head-on collision on U S Road 31 near Henryville at 10 15 this morning. Adolph Zollman 43 superintendent of Seymour public schools and his wife Mildred 40 die from injuries. Injured truck driver Gilbert Ammerman 51 Indianapolis listed very critical at St Edwards Hospital New Albany. The couple were en route north in a blue sedan when a southbound Holland Motor Freight tractor and semi-trailer passed another car and struck head on. The tragedy ends with multiple fatal injuries and a look for page five.

Claude Van Patten 24 of Grand Rapids Michigan is identified. initial papers misidentified him as Joseph Harrison. Funeral services were held for Adolph Perrin aged 50 of 1412 North Sheffield Indianapolis. The Shirley Brothers West Chapel conducted services and burial occurred in Brownstown cemetery. Perrin died Tuesday morning in Indianapolis and was related to several local residents.

Eight hour truck inspection at the permanent pit scales east of Seymour on U S Route 31 resulted in six drivers cited. Five were charged with overweight loads—two in Seymour city court and three in justice of peace courts. One driver cited for missing clearance lights. Troopers Sime and Brown led the check from 2 PM to 10 PM. Sgt Brewer and Trooper Conway continued today.

Gunner Wounds Shelton Clansmen in Fairfield Shootout
In Fairfield Illinois two Shelton clan members Lulu Shelton Pennington and Guy Pennington were seriously wounded in a downtown machinegun attack. The assailant fled as Illinois state police blocked roads within minutes and the case follows a series of ambushes that killed three Shelton brothers linked to a southern Illinois gang. The Penningtons’ car was stopped by a black 1950 Mercury before the driver fled.
