Jackson county reports a very small wheat crop, about 5 to 10 percent of normal, due to cold days and a prolonged drought. Oats look exceptionally promising with a potential historic county yield as cool wet weather favors growth and farmers shift from wheat to oats after winter losses.
Berlin June 28 socialist leader Herr Mueller formed a cabinet with President Hindenburg’s approval. The lineup includes Mueller as chancellor, Severing interior, Hilferding finance, Stresemann foreign, Cirtins economics, Guerard food, Dietrich defense, Geroener communications, Schnetzl transport, with labor transport and justice ports to be filled. cabinet to outline policies next Tuesday and likely reorganize in fall.
Earl Pitt and Emmett Lester, both from Nashville, received fines of five dollars and costs plus suspended six month jail terms after admitting they burned a sawmill owned by Sherman H. Berry of Freetown while stealing gasoline. Each man must pay Berry five hundred dollars in damages. Lester suffered facial burns from the gasoline explosion.
The annual Fort Wayne meeting of Missouri Synod Lutherans discussed a district budget of 515000 with lay delegates drafting resolutions to back the program. Key finance board members include Rev Walter Litehtsinn as chair and Rev W F Doctor as secretary, with J C Trier treasurer and A H Ahlbrand financial secretary. W A Carter recalls the coal oil lamp brought to Seymour by his father, the first in town sold by B F Price in 1864. The lamp, filled with kerosene burning fluid, wowed the family, replacing grease lamps that used rags and grease. Gas and later electric lights followed years after.
Deputy Police Commissioner O Connor announced a roundup targeting ten racketeer kings who control Chicago cleaning and dyeing firms. Big Tim Murphy was shot dead amid an alleged bid to topple the ten leaders. two of the ten, Frank Noonan and James Forsyth, will be booked for murder when found.

Miss Margaret Lanham and John Lanham from Norwood Ohio are guests of their grandmother Mrs Margaret Lanham and aunt Mrs George Kiley in this city for a stay with family.
The vacation Bible school conducted by seven Seymour churches plans a Friday picnic at Shields Park. Children will march from their churches to the park where mothers will prepare a dinner. After games, swimming or skating, the day ends with a closing gym program next Tuesday at the First Baptist church.

In Hlowston Texas on June 28 a Democratic platform draft stressed a strong prohibition plank naming the eighteenth amendment and a firm agriculture plank favoring federal aid with limited surplus handling aligned with McNary Haugen. The drafting committee worked overnight, with Senator Wagner endorsing the prohibition stance while Governor Moody weighed his stance on signing. The full platform, about 3500 words, was read to the committee early this morning, with revisions to please Moody but no minority report expected.

Herbert Hoover today started drafting his acceptance speech for the Republican presidential nomination. He will address tariff farm relief and law enforcement, plan to present the speech in early August, and spend four weeks refining it. Hoover also prepared to resign as secretary of commerce within weeks and meet President Coolidge before July's end. The Hoover and Work offices said resignations and staffing remain undecided, while Republican headquarters stay in status quo until after the Democratic convention.
