Thieves gained entry through a rear window and vent, stealing $40 from Buckles pool room on Mill Street and $10 from Phillips garage on North Ewing Street. The Buckles safe remained unbroken and unsearched, with discovery of the theft made after 9 o'clock. Police were notified last night.
Governor McCray appointed Marshall Woolery of Bedford as prosecutor for the Jackson and Lawrence judicial circuit effective immediately due to the death of Merlin C. Roach the Democratic incumbent. Woolery, a Republican and former district prosecutor, will likely keep F. W. Wegner of this city as Jackson county deputy.
A public gathering at Shields park shelter house Friday night is announced as a one hundred per cent American event under the Ku Klux Klan women’s auxiliary. A Brownstown meeting tonight invites the public, with the Klan reported to have about 1,000 Jackson county members and hundreds more in the auxiliary.

He operated a stone quarry on his Lawrence county edge farm and delivered stone by wagon and team early in his contracting career.
A $50,000 bond issue for a new Cortland school building in Hamilton township will be heard July 10 at Cortland school. About 30 taxpayers filed a remonstrance with the auditor of Jackson County and the state tax board. The state tax board will preside and issue a decision afterward.

The funeral of Joseph I. Swain will be held Friday at 2 30 PM from the Central Christian church. Knights of Pythias and Rev W T Mullins will be in charge. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery. Swain died Wednesday afternoon at his West Second street home.

A thief of unknown identity stole ten quarts of canned cherries from the home of Mrs. Daniel Bishop at 520 West Fourth Street yesterday morning shortly before noon. Mrs. Bishop had been canning cherries and ten jars were taken while she was briefly away.
Northbound Pennsylvania train due at 9 54 a m struck a road drag in Memphis this morning and ran an hour late. No injuries reported though the road drag was badly damaged and the train arrived without its cow catcher.

J C Valentine prominent Franklin grain dealer in Johnson county died suddenly at his home on Wednesday morning. Born in 1859 at Mt Sterling Switzerland county and later lived in Edinburgh, he moved to Franklin in 1889 to manage a starch plant owned by Samuel Cutsinger.
