The county faces a severe drought as June totals only 0.77 inch of rain with three light events on the 7th 8th and 13th. Corn and potato crops suffer while farmers hope for local showers to ease the dryness and aid planting and harvest conditions.
Two lodges the Moose and Eagles completed concrete flower beds at Shields Park. Each bed about twenty by ten feet will be filled with rich soil and planted with flowers soon. The park board encouraged civic groups to beautify parks, noting the beds will greatly improve appearance.
Beauty shop will close except Fridays and Saturdays in July and August beginning next week. Open Friday free as usual. make appointments early. Phone K-76.
Seven new school buildings are planned in Jackson county with total contracts about 225000. Some projects underway while others await state tax board bond sale decisions. Cortland and Surprise sites in Hamilton township to receive major portions of the budget with a 75000 bond issue, five percent interest, due 1937. Opposition and remonstrances arise over Cortland plan as hearings are set.
Authority signed Tuesday by W. H. Burkley to build a manhole in the sewer on Walnut street between St. Louis avenue and Second street. Arthur Brown supervises as street commissioner with crews at work to ease future cleaning. Prior work included cleaning the drain sewer at the Shields pool, where six inch tile sections hid a croquet mallet wedged by grass and debris.
Joseph A. Brandt writes a cousin about six months travel through France Italy and Sicily. He notes Easter in Italy Paris four days Mt Penis tunnel Milan cathedral Leonardo da Vinci painting and other sights and stories from the journey.
A light truck owned by Fred Christopher of Seymour suffered a smashed rear wheel and radiator break when a freight car cut across the street at the Bush Mill Tipton Street switch. The truck carried bottled drinks but none were broken. Brakeman action helped avert further damage or injury.
More than thirty boys were guests of the Seymour Rotary Club at a Tuesday picnic at Peters Lake. The program included swimming outdoor games and a big feed with sandwiches and pop. The June entertainment committee organized the afternoon chaired by C H Wiethof.
Miss Agnes Cobb, who has taught in Chicago for months, returned to her home with her parents Mr and Mrs John J Cobb. Miss Alice Cobb, who had been visiting in Chicago, accompanied her sister home.
Born to Mr and Mrs Frank Meyers south of the city today a son Walter Jobu Carl is welcomed in the family.

In Indianapolis on June 28 Judge A B Anderson heard arguments on an injunction suit by Clara Masson owner of the Peacock mines in Knox county seeking to restrain strikers from interfering with mine operations. The injunction would bar picketing and marches that shut wagon mines in Southern Indiana and prevent repeats of the Williamson county Illinois massacre. The effort, aimed at the Peacock mine, could set a national precedent and allow injunctions elsewhere, protecting shaft mines and enabling non union employment.

G Thomas motorman of the Fort Wayne limited interurban car was arrested on manslaughter charges after striking a car in Indianapolis killing Mrs Pearl Wilding. Mrs Wilding died from injuries sustained. Her husband and baby expected to recover. Mrs Mary Wilding, 71, of Anderson suffered minor injuries.
