Dr. EB Chenoweth announces near completion of a local medical detachment for the 181st Field Artillery with seven to eight more openings. Recruits will train fifteen days at an army camp in August and receive regular army and government pay during enlistment. Equipment is provided by the government.
The Rotary Club voted to enter a float in the Independence Day parade under the American Legion celebration. A decorating committee led by Nath an Kaufman and others will adorn the club car. Clem Roegge was welcomed as a new member. Miss Levy from Indianapolis spoke on Practical Psychology applicable to business life.
Scott Moore, manager of a Third and Ewing streets grocery, killed a large tarantula that had captured a mouse. The spider stood over its prize as Moore approached. Moore suspects the tarantula rode in with a banana bunch weeks ago and nested there.
A group of interested men met at the Chamber of Commerce and formed a temporary organization for horseshoe pitching. I. L. Frost organized the effort, with John W. Conner as temporary chairman and Edgar Morris as secretary and treasurer. An executive committee by ward was named and will draft by laws and regulations. A general meeting Friday will finalize the permanent body and plan elimination contests and a city championship.

Chicago June 28 Shop employes nationwide overwhelmingly rejected a 12 percent wage cut ordered by the United States railroad board effective July 1. The referendum reported to the AFL railroad department showed 325000 opposed to the decrease versus 48000 in favor. Labor leaders were surprised but will carry out employees wishes. The four big railroad brotherhoods defer final action until a Friday meeting.
Several hundred Seymour Reds fans plan to travel to Columbus for a Sunday clash with a fast Columbus team. The Seymour Chamber of Commerce band will lead players and fans from the interurban station to the ball park. Columbus visits Seymour on Monday July 4 for a return game. both games promise a highlight of the season.
London June 28 United Press reports the British coal strike is settled. Miners resume work immediately after accepting government terms including a wage subsidy to shield miners and colliery owners. Unofficially the miners drop nationalization demands, easing earlier stalemates. Secretary Hodges pledges acceptance of the conference settlement, with Parliament expected to debate subsidy before action.
Fire destroyed the Owen L. Carr garage and Bullins & Taylor Service station in Rushville. Seventeen automobiles and twelve tractors burned. two dwellings damaged. Damage estimated at 75000 with partial insurance coverage. Firemen faced strong winds. Connersville fire department assisted. fire likely started in a paint shop on the Carr garage second floor.
Yonkers June 28 a subpoena has been issued for James A Stillman by Referee Daniel J Gleanson The subpoena sent by Mrs Stillmans attorney is returnable in Poughkeepsie at 10 50 a m tomorrow when secret hearings will resume Chief investigator Charles J Wallace for John Brennan aided by two private detectives spent yesterday and last night seeking the banker to serve the subpoena Stillman had not been located.
The trial of Mrs. Eva Catherine Kaber began in Cleveland as the first of six defendants in the 1919 murder of Danial F. Kaber, Lakewood publisher. Prosecutors seek a jury with women predominance and a tem porary insanity plea is anticipated as experts testify on the stabbing amid earlier arsenic exposure.
Republican and Democratic conferees reach agreement on a peace measure to end the state of war with Germany and Austria Hungary and to reserve rights under the Versailles treaty. The plan calls for a formal vote by both houses after Democratic objections are voiced and dismissed.
Indianapolis June 28 Indiana Bell Telephone asks the public service commission for rate boosts in Indianapolis and Anderson. Indianapolis would switch to a flat 5 rate for homes, 4 for two party lines, and a 12 business rate, while Anderson seeks higher returns on its investment. Frank Wampler, VP and GM, said the company is not turning a profit.
Indianapolis June 28 Governor McCray and Colgate and Company officials met to resolve the dispute over moving the Indiana Reformatory from Jeffersonville. Colgate says they purchased the site and refuse to relinquish. the governor claims no signed contract and asks relinquishment as courtesy. Colgate previously paid 105000 as initial payment and may claim the deal is sealed. The removal commission says the law is unworkable and legislative action is pending. Transfer was set for October 31 1922, but Colgate seeks earlier possession.
Washington reports the Harding administration aims to reduce expenditures by about one quarter for the year starting July 1. Congress has appropriated around four billion dollars and the budget director Charles G. Dawes will outline plans at a first of its kind cabinet meeting.
London reports Britain has requested a three months postponement in renewing the Japan alliance. A note cites the British premiers conference beginning its consideration as the reason and says premiers should decide before a new treaty is signed. No word on American stance.
In Detroit on June 28 the American Socialist party convention saw sharp battles between radicals and conservatives. Conservatives gained ground as the session moved into executive to review a communication from the legislative committee and to decide on plans for socialist congressmen regarding voting on military or naval appropriations.
