JCBC approves borrowing to fund bicentennial events

Jackson County Bicentennial Commission officers approved a resolution to borrow money for upcoming events. The meeting in Seymour National Bank was presided by Mrs. Betty Smallwood in May’s absence. Treasurer Tom Voss reported after the resolution approval. Plans include July 4 activities at Brownstown, a kickoff at the park, and a program featuring the Community Chorus and Band, a talk by Kenneth Ball, and a bonfire. Further events outlined include a Freetown square dance, a muzzle loading contest at the fairgrounds, a raft race August 9, and a county road bicycle ride in September. Additional meetings and route maps were announced with several directors in attendance.

Girl Hurt In Mishap In Seymour Streets

Seymour police report two mishaps on Thursday. Vivian L. Hazelette, 19, was injured on a northbound bicycle on South Broadway when struck by a 1966 four door auto pulling from an alley near Tipton Street, suffering abrasions but refusing treatment. Dorie E. Lucas, 24, said her view was blocked by parked cars and she did not see the cyclist. The bicycle sustained about 40 dollars in damage and Lucas’s car about 5 dollars to the left front fender. A 1971 sedan driven by Marie L. Lopez, 57, Crothersville R2, hit railroad flasher posts at Fourth Street and Indianapolis Avenue, causing about 800 dollars damage to the grill, hood, bumper and radiator. Police investigated.
