President Nixon lands at Vnukovo Airport to a large Moscow greeting with Brezhnev. Police corral crowds while flag waving and diplomatic handshakes unfold. Nixon aims for a partial ban on underground nuclear tests and a slowdown in arms development.
A Brownstown youth, Larry G. Spivey 16, sustained a concussion and multiple cuts when his 1968 two door collided head on with a tree on Ind 39 near Tamico. He was taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital. The crash left the car totaled as troopers investigate.
Seymour prepares a new concrete dog pound at the disposal plant north west of the city to replace a neglected frame building at Freeman Field. The two 15 by 15 foot sections will separate males and females, provide 24 hour supervision, a water supply, and daily care by Charles Hines with a five day holding period and a $1.50 daily board fee.
The Public Service Commission of Indiana approves Indiana Telephone Corporation to spend over 3.8 million dollars on new facilities across 21 southern Indiana counties. Christopher C. May notes 37 exchanges affected with about 778 thousand dollars in Jackson County. Improvements include replacing open wire with cables, adding equipment for automatic private line identification, and microwave toll links between Seymour and other areas.
May outlined plans to install cables in the Brownstown exchange area, remove open wire facilities, and install toll facilities linking various exchanges to the Seymour toll center for local and long distance service. Improvements are expected to finish by the third quarter of 1975.
Officials reassure the public after seven dead cats were recovered from Seymour Municipal Swimming Pool since Memorial Day. Water tests show highest cleanliness rating with no algae or bacteria. filtration runs every four to six hours and chlorine kept high.
White River and tributaries in Jackson County fell more than a foot after cresting near flood stage. At Rockford the river reached 14.47 feet and then declined to 13.1 by 7 am as officials reported lowland flooding and crop damage in the river bottoms. Weather outlook remains fair with highs in the 80s and temperatures in the 60s at night.
Jackson County seeks a new dentist for the western area after the CHP board approved sending an application to the National Health Service in Chicago. The service will review rural Midwest rosters and likely send two to three candidates to meet residents in Brownstown Health Center. Additional notes cover hospital bed approval issues and new CHP officers including Arthur Kaufman.

James Jones a 25 year old from Indianapolis was arrested after a on scene shootout with Richmond city police. He was charged with armed robbery and assault with intent to kill for disarming two state troopers and abducting a truck driver. Jones was wounded and hospitalized in fair condition. He had eluded police since about 3 am Wednesday after disarming Trooper Brooks Mounsey and Trooper Earl L Taggart on I 70 in Wayne County. The troopers escaped the trunk of a police car as their pursuit ended in a crash and fire near the Centerville exit on I 65 before Jones fled on foot and was later arrested.
The Seymour board of public works and safety heard an auditor report showing $23 971 17 available to the city for motor vehicle fund use, contingent on local matching and a two year claim period. Applications by Vernon Melton for sewer connections in Eastbrook and Mutton Creek Estates were approved along with Zumhingst Inc for Sherwood Terrace and Gayle Construction Co for Manor Heights.
