Exceptions Are Filed In 165 Suits

Defendants in two Interstate 65 right of way cases filed exceptions to appraisals of damages in Jackson Circuit Court. The State of Indiana seeks appropriation of land. Denver W Montgomery and Betty Montgomery contest a 0.353 acre parcel valued at 500 dollars. Cartwrights challenge 0.263 acre valued at 3623 dollars. Appraisers were Milton C Pollett Walter L Surface and Ralph Bode appointed by Judge John M Lewis. Also noted were juvenile and contempt proceedings and adjourned May term actions.

Pistol Wound In Left Leg At Freetown

Clayton Scott a 21 year old resident of Freetown was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital for a .22 caliber pistol wound to the left leg. The injury occurred when a Derringer pistol discharged while Scott and his wife Velma watched television at their home about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The accident left his leg with a knee area entry wound and was described as fair. Det Sgt Harold E Chambers and Trooper T L Schlegelmilch investigated. no foul play suspected.

River Near Flood Stage As Rain Lashes the Region

With the White River just under flood stage at Recford, Jackson County faces more thundershowers tonight and a week of hot, humid weather. Rivers remain high, floodwaters persist on roads, and several state routes are closed. several highways reopened over the weekend as temperatures rise into the upper 80s and lows near 60.

Wheat Harvest Underway In Jackson County 1960

Jackson County begins its 1960 wheat harvest with about 1000 bushels delivered to Farmers Hominy Mill. No. 1 new wheat price set at 1.60 per bushel. first growers include Woodrow H Hehman Seymour R3 and others from Seymour area. Moisture 14.8 percent, test weight around 60 pounds. several producers contributed to the morning total.

Branaman Elected Jackson Delegate To Indiana Bar

Thomas H. Branaman Browns town attorney was elected delegate to the Indiana State Bar Association House of Delegates by the Jackson County Bar Association. Edward P. Elsner Jr. Seymour was elected alternate delegate for a two year term. A memorial service for Oren O Swails was held after the meeting.

Survey Seeks Feasibility of New Baptist Church in Seymour

A Saturday survey in Seymour examined the east side of town to assess the need for another Baptist Church. Jack Redford of Columbus directed the effort for the State Convention of Baptists to gauge potential church expansion during a state-wide campaign to start 60 new churches this summer.

Young Man Injured In Indiana 258 Truck Crash

Robert A. Luenebrink twenty one of Brownstown Indiana was seriously hurt at 9 45 am today when his milk truck collided with a second gasoline truck at the state road 258 intersection near Spray s Corner eight miles west of Seymour He was admitted to Schneck Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Methodist Hospital Indianapolis Ralph Wischmeier twenty five of Seymour was treated and released from Schneck Memorial Hospital for injuries to his right forearm leg and shoulder He was riding in Luenebrink s truck Roy E Wenning forty eight of Seymour drove the gasoline truck involved in the crash and investigation was led by Trooper Robert O Stanley of the Seymour state police post

Racer Fair After Crash At Brownstown Race

A 24 year old midget auto driver from Bedford named Jack Charles was listed in fair condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after his car caught fire and burned his body below the waist during a Brownstown race. The accident occurred Saturday night with admission at 10 10 p m. Also, 17 year old Jerry Hall of Norman suffered eye burns while welding and was treated and released early Sunday.

Timber and brush blaze across three Western fires

The Kaibab National Forest near the Grand Canyon burned about 7 500 acres of timber and brush with 1 000 firefighters on scene. A separate uncontrolled fire shut the southwest entrance to Sequoia National Park as 2 000 acres burned and 50–75 carloads of campers were evacuated. In Los Angeles foothills 800 men fought a second fire that scorched 1 700 acres and fire crews expected full control by nightfall. An Arizona blaze started in a remote Kaibab pocket Wednesday.
