Extreme heat waves push the day to a 96 degree maximum and 77 degree minimum. One illness tied to the heat is reported near Cortland as harvest work slows. several wheat harvesters quit for rest due to high temperatures and humidity.
The Brownstown county clerk reports receiving 186 copies of the statutes for Jackson County officials and distributes them to county city and township offices. Citizens may obtain a copy while supply lasts. The volume contains 189 chapters and 764 pages, including all laws from the session except House Bill No. 6, the bus bill, omitted pending court adjudication.
City engineer Charles R. Mather reports the Third Street relief sewer project near Carter Boulevard faces a complex crossing of the existing 24 inch sewer with the new 18 inch line. Workers will remove a 20 foot section of old tile while routing sewage from both lines into the new system as construction continues under night digging and daytime tile placement.
Shirley McDonald, young son of Mr. and Mrs. James McDonald, fell while playing and injured his arm. He is reported to be getting along nicely.
More than twenty prohibition leaders met in Washington to form a national board of strategy for the 1932 campaign. Dr Daniel A Poling said the group aims to rally fresh support for the dry cause across 257 cities in as many days starting September 8 in Columbus Ohio with a rotating pair of speakers in each city, keeping funds with allied organizations.
Gunnery Sergeant Lloyd Deckard of Maumee Indiana earned his eighth diploma after completing an Architectural Course from the Marine Corps Institute in Washington D C. Major General Fuller praised his work as a student in a formal letter. Deckard, now at the Marine Barracks Washington was born in Maumee and joined the Marines in Indianapolis in May.
Alfred Aloysius Smith known as Trader Horn died in a Tankerton nursing home after a brief illness. He described himself as a young man of 82 and was famed for adventures in Africa and around the world. He wrote with Mrs Ethelreen Lewis and entertained both England and America with tales of his experiences.
At the Jennings county threshers annual meeting prices for the 1931 grain crop were set lower than in recent years. Wheat six and a half cents, oats six and rye. Dr. John G. Klein was named president for the coming year.
A Sunday evening Children Day service at 7 30 in the First Baptist Church gymnasium directs a pageant titled The Gifts of Life under Miss Mary Austin. It features Introduction segments with Donald Decker Betsy Cohn and Helen Walker and lists child roles and a June Morning garden scene with solos by Anna F Carter.

American fliers Wiley Post and Harold Gatty faced metric system woes and fuel miscalculations as they press toward a ten day global circumnavigation. Their route from Moscow toward Novosibirsk and Copenhagen encountered delays in Germany and Siberia.
An all day conference of the Seymour district sub district superintendents of the Indiana State Highway Commission was held at the local highway department offices. C A McClain district engineer presided. Attendees included Paul Gilliland Aurorah Virgil Emmert Bloomington Don Norton Columbus Byron Burton Madison William Holland New Albany and N F Creamer this city.
Lebanon Indiana June 26 13 year old girl held for grand jury probe into poison deaths of her sisters at a family picnic. Mrs John W Simmons says she had no knowledge of who poisoned capsules placed in chicken sandwiches. Authorities review who attended the outing as husband declines to answer questions.
Henry Siefker, a driver for Silver Fleet Motor Express of Louisville, was injured when his truck overturned near Franklin on U S Highway 31 while on a Louisville to Chicago overnight run. He suffered a cut above the right eye and multiple facial and body bruises.
Robert McIntosh, 21, of Washington Indiana, revealed he vanished after a beach party in Akron Ohio while seeking work. He said he swam, attended a dance, left with two outfits, and later set out to find employment, not wanting to disturb roommates. He had been discharged from Goodyear Tire and Rubber.
