A two day session of the Jackson County board of review opened in the city council chamber to hear requests for reductions in real estate assessments. Few taxpayers filed complaints Monday, with more expected Tuesday as the board concludes its local hearings. T. P. Tillman of the state tax board praised the local members as fair and capable. The board includes Samuel Carr James Branaman C. Tinch August Schneider and John Q. Foster. Mayor Charles L. Kessler met with them and Tillman, as the group aims to finish by Tuesday evening.
A car stopped on a car track in Seymour near Indianapolis on Sunday, killing Mrs. Bertha Robbins and injuring three others. Grandson Anthony Kremple, 15 months, suffered head injuries. Laura Robbins, 17, was unconscious. Marie Thomas, 35, had a fractured arm and possible internal injuries. George Thomas, husband of Sheila Robbins, drove the car and tried to reverse as it stood on the tracks.

In Herrin Illinois on June 26 the coroner jury found Southern Illinois Coal Company officials responsible for the twenty one deaths during the clash of union and non union miners. The mine superintendent K McDowell was branded a murderer and accused of killing George Henderson. A wounded witness declared he saw McDowell fire the fatal shot. Eighteen victims were buried in Herrin and no further prosecution was expected.
Mrs. Lea Small, wife of Illinois Governor, died in Kankakee after a brain hemorrhage that followed her husband’s acquittal. She collapsed in his arms after a joyous homecoming. physicians linked her death to the trial’s strain.
