Last Bloodmobile Visit Thursday in Jackson County
The Louisville Region Bloodmobile will make its final call of the 1959 60 fiscal year on Thursday from 10 30 a m to 4 30 p m at Seymour American Legion Post No 89. The Jackson County chapter aims for 150 pints this visit to beat the 880 pint quota. Eight prior visits yielded 658 pints, 74.8 percent of the target.

Troopers Rescue Farmer From Flooded Field
Indiana troopers Robert Kirk and Gene Gordon rescued Lloyd Grubb, about 50, from a 10 foot deep flooded field near Belmont after his horse was swept away. Using a motorboat they pulled him to safety when he clung to a tree as floodwaters carried his ride downstream. Grubb said he aimed to move cattle to higher ground by cutting a fence. The horse drowned in Salt Creek’s swift current five miles southwest of Belmont.

County Ranks 21st In Primary Voter Participation
Jackson County ranked 211st among Indiana's 92 counties for the percentage of registered voters who cast ballots in the May 3 primary, with 8,023 ballots or 46.15 percent. Democratic votes totaled 5,451 and Republican 2,572. Statewide turnout was 920,707 or 40.15 percent. The Indiana State Chamber of Commerce notes higher off year turnout due to local races and cautions about primary strength translating into general election outcomes. Top counties by turnout are listed, with Crawford leading at 68.86 percent.

Approximately 125 people attended Brownstown Public Library’s Golden Anniversary event. Firemen Quell Blaze In Automobile Friday
City firemen answered a call at 5 27 p m Friday and put out a fire in the automobile of Mrs Arthur Flick at 611 East 10th street. The fire burned out the ignition wiring and the paint on the hood of the 1959 automobile.

51 Die as Brazilian airliner plunges into Guanabara Bay
An airliner with 51 aboard including at least one American crashed into Guanabara Bay near Rio de Janeiro while approaching Santos-Dumont Airport. Wreckage and body parts were found. no survivors. Notable passenger Newton B. Thompson of Waterville Maine and other names listed. The Convair was flying from Brasilia with a Belo Horizonte stopover when contact was lost near Paqueta Island.

If unpaid, delinquencies will be certified to the Jackson County auditor with penalties of 0.5 percent and 6 percent monthly interest.
