Construction proceeds on Riley and Lincoln ward schools with ten days of work completed. Walls at both buildings are removed and dismantling underway to permit new heating and ventilating systems and extensions. Entrance wall section opened for new physical education rooms thirty three by seventy two feet.
Earl Chambers, longtime Brownstown High School basketball coach, resigns after seven years. He will not return in 1931 1932 and has reportedly accepted a coaching teaching post at Center Grove Township High School in Johnson County. The Browns town successor has not been named.
Ross Jones age twenty three ill with small pox at his Third and Broadway home. Sanitary officer James A Willey ordered quarantine Wednesday. Two cases in the county and one in Columbus. A Weaver family home was quarantined earlier by nurse Matilda Lebline. Avery Kinolt visited Scipio. his brother’s home there had a smallpox case. On return he fell ill and was diagnosed influenza before the smallpox diagnosis. Many exposures feared.

Paul W. Goss of the American Red Cross Life Saving division will lead a three day course and exam for Senior Red Cross life saving at Camp Louis Ernst July 1 2 and 3. Sessions run mornings and afternoons through Friday with all exams Friday evening. Open to men and women over seventeen. certificates awarded to those who complete. Non residents welcome with camp housing possible for older participants. Boat and canoe instruction offered alongside campfire programs.
Workmen of the Indiana State Highway Commission started oiling State Road 35 from the junction with U S 50 south to Ward Salem. The road will not be closed but a detour is marked for those who wish to avoid the newly oiled surface. Oil work also began on Road 50 from its junction with 50 and 35 west to Medora.
Iowa reports high marks with 105 degrees claimed as the season's peak. A string of near record readings followed, including 93 in the city and 92 last week. Warm spells featured light breezes and the start of summer activities as farmers harvested wheat and rye amid scattered storms and showers in nearby towns.
State forester Ralph Wilcox announced the purchase of 700 acres to bear a 100 foot observation tower. The structure will link with Clark state forest and Brown county game preserve and serve 150000 acres across Jackson, Washington, Clark and Scott counties. Construction aims for this dry season to curb recurring county fires near Venice road to Slyge.
Frank M. Davis of Vernon Place near Crothersville reports a pasture incident in which his normally calm cow attacked and fatally gored his horse. The horse died shortly after the sudden ferocious act, marking the third livestock loss since Davis moved to the farm.
The Associated Press reports Otto Hillig and Holger Horms made a forced landing at Krefeld Germany then refueled and pressed on to Copenhagen. They left Newfoundland for a 3150 mile hop but radio silence and no ships sighted them as of this morning.
R L McIntosh father of Robert McIntosh reports a telegraph message claiming his son would return home tonight though Indianapolis telegraph offices have no record of sending it. A search begun in Akron Ohio has extended across two states for 21 year old Robert F McIntosh former Washington Hatchet basketball player.
John Johnson of Austin was arrested for public intoxication after a house to house canvas. A woman on East Tipton street reported a stranger entered her home, prompting police to search the neighborhood where Johnson was later detained awaiting a likely afternoon hearing.
Harold Gatty of the Post and Gatty team dozed off in a bathtub at Tempelhof airdrome after a strenuous trans Atlantic hop. Attendants bailed him out and saw him to bed.
After a long trip from New York the crew enjoyed seven and a half hours rest and a hearty breakfast. They boarded their ship in good spirits as airport staff noted the refueled greased and inspected craft ready for the grueling race against Dr Hugo Eck.
Ministers from Jackson county churches will attend the July 1 to 3 event at Butler university Indianapolis led by Dr Frederick D Kershner. The conference on Christian ministry features a disciples of Christ lineup and round table topics on current church issues with open participation.

Authorities canvass drug stores seek who supplied poison capsules and review purchases while relatives remain at a loss for motive or source.

Mrs E B Chenoweth files in Jackson Circuit Court for divorce from Dr E B Chenoweth alleging cruel treatment. She seeks custody of Suzanne, age four, and alimony of 5000. The couple allegedly married May 20, 1903 and separated June 13 of this year.
Indiana Supreme Court blocked another bid by D. C. Stephenson serving a life term for murder to gain freedom. Attorney General James M. Ogden won a writ of prohibition to stop LaPorte Superior Court from further action on Stephenson’s habeas corpus petition. The court ordered Crumpacker to show cause why the writ should not be permanent. An appeal of Stephenson’s conviction is pending.
The Jackson county Board of Review meets daily at Brownstown courthouse since June 1 to discuss tax problems. It includes the county auditor, treasurer, clerk, and two appointees, William Masters and Bruce Fleetwood, with one major duty being the removal of tax exemptions.
Washington reports W J Humphreys of the weather bureau offers a theory for the 1930 drought. He says a polar air stream was diverted toward Europe, reducing rainfall in North America as cold air stagnated. The study notes rainfall forms from rapid cooling of warm moist air and explains unusual air patterns.
The arrival of Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon from London stirred official speculation on a possible link to U S France negotiations over the Hoover moratorium plan. Mellon, touring Paris, may meet Briand and other ministers to discuss Germany relief and the Young plan, with Washington's reaction likely shaping further steps.
