William A. Carter dies at 80 longtime Seymour resident
William A. Carter, age 80, longtime Seymour resident and former deputy sheriff, died at 8:30 p.m. at his home 420 North Ewing Street after a brief illness from bronchial asthma and heart disease. Born October 16, 1849 in Girassy Fork township, he helped his father Travis Carter build Seymour in its early days and owned part of the Travis Carter Planing Mill. Survived by four sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren, he was active in Hermon Lodge Knights of Pythias and First Baptist church. Funeral arrangements pending.

Cana Church Burns in Late Night Fire
The Methodist church at Cana near Seymour burned shortly before 11 pm causing an estimated loss of 3000 to 4000 dollars with about 1400 covered by insurance. Choir members had left by 9 30 pm after checking gasoline lights. Neighbors Bert Davis and John Owens were first on the scene as the one story frame building burned. Built in 1869, rebuilding discussions are underway.

Bedford Man's Death Ruled Accidental by Coroner
Bedford Ind June 25 Russell James Rainey 27 of French Lick found on a railroad track near Bedford. Coroner O D Emerson ruled the death accidental after a bloody window cord near the body suggested he was tied to the track but train crew said the cord was used to staunch a wound. Rainey may have wandered onto the tracks while dazed.

Railroad seeks change of station at St Louis Crossing
