Jackson County to decide location of new court Wednesday

Parking ordinance clears Third and Walnut and Third and Chestnut

City council approved Ordinance No. 61 prohibiting parking on specified segments near the Third Street intersections with Walnut and Chestnut. The measure amends No. 1556 and passed three readings after readings Monday night. Resolution No. 13 then transferred 9000 to pay temporary railroad repair labor at Freeman Field.

Court Disciplines Seymour Attorney

Indiana Supreme Court suspended local attorney John M. Lewis from practice for at least 30 days. The action followed charges he violated his oath and disciplinary rules and his 1971 tax return offense, for which he pled guilty January 25, 1974. He received six months in prison, $1000 fine, and costs, suspended, with six months probation.

Shortages Found At Brownstown And Knox License Branches

Indiana auditors report more than 2500 dollars missing from two license branches. Brownstown Branch No 19 shows 1903.65 shortfalls from 1971 to 1973 with unremitted fees and deposits as well as tax and treasurer remittance gaps. Knox Branch No 75 records 651.34 shortfalls from 1973 including taxes due and unremitted fees.
