Woman Charged In Jennings County Slaying After Tractor Shooting

Autopsy in Indianapolis follows the death of Harvey Abbott of Paris Crossing. Abbott, shot by neighbor Marybelle Carlock during a noon dispute on a Jennings county farm, died hours later at Robert Long Hospital. Carlock, 62, faces first degree murder charges and a preliminary hearing was set.

Texas Eastern expands Seymour station for $2 million upgrade

Texas Eastern Transmission Corp advances a roughly 2 million dollar expansion at the Seymour station three miles northeast of here in Shreveport Louisiana. Millard K. Neptune says the project adds two mainline pump buildings eight tanks 72 extra acres and a remodeled compressor building with control room lab and district office. The work follows FPC approval on June 21 to remove a 1168 mile Little Big Inch gas line and shifts the company toward petroleum products transport linking Gulf Coast production with Midwest markets.

Owens Sentenced in Larceny Case in Jackson Circuit Court

James Frank Owens 41 unknown address pleaded guilty to a second petit larceny count in Jackson Circuit Court. Judge John M. Lewis fined him ten dollars plus costs and sentenced him to one year at the Indiana state penal farm. Owens was arrested June 12 by Detective Sgt Don Winn after entering a Crothersville area home and stealing a ballpoint pen.

Mrs. Gaier Pleads Innocent In Court In Fatal Crash

Florence Gaier 52 of Zephyr Village Columbus pleads innocent to reckless driving in Bartholomew circuit court and is freed on a $500 bond after a June 11 collision south of Columbus that killed three Seymour youths Nora Love Hobson 16 Thalma Jean Hobson 19 and David Ray Decker 16. Trial set for October 3.

Earl Jaynes To Head Shields Alumni Dance Crowd Over 300

Earl Jaynes was introduced as new president of the Shields High School Alumni Association at a Saturday night dance in the American Legion Home attended by more than 300 couples. Norman Haas retired president, along with other new officers, were announced. The event featured the Jeffersonville Chieftains as the band and raised funds expanding scholarships for future college students.

Four County Men Inducted Today

Four Jackson county men were reported for induction at the Armed Forces Induction Station in Indianapolis today, per Mrs. Pat Smith, clerk of the local selective service board. The inductees are Ronald Paul Sage, Jackie Dean Isaacs, Robert Lee Young and Marvin Huffman. None were ordered to report for physical examinations in this June call. The July 24 call for Jackson county will include five for induction and nine for physical examinations.

Seymour Common Council meets at 7 30 p m to consider naming a school board member and to give a first reading on new meeting rules. The agenda also includes possible action on redistricting city council districts.

Thompson Sentenced On Auto Banditry Charge

Thompson 24 pleaded guilty to automobile banditry in Jackson Circuit Court, receiving a 10 year state prison term with a minimum of six years eight months before parole. The kidnapping charge was dropped. He abducted a 14 year old Seymour girl on March 27 and was later linked to threats against three Bedford girls. Prosecutors plan further action.

Weekend Highway Accidents Claim 14 in Indiana

The Associated Press reports a deadly Indiana weekend with 14 fatalities. Four deaths occurred Saturday on Ind 52 near Rushville in a bridge crash involving a Cincinnati bound auto and a second vehicle. Victims include John G. Clark, 20, Franklin. Mrs Christine Johnson, 31, Muncie. Mrs Elsie Pickard, 63, Muncie. George Cecil, 7, Muncie. An Indianapolis couple, Clarence B. Snyder, 65, and Goldie Snyder, 69, died Sunday in a collision near Fort Wayne on US 27. Joseph Jerkowitz, 20, died in a Saint Leon area crash on Ind 46. Walter Ruble, 43, Winchester, died near his home on US 27 when his car struck trees after leaving the road.

Senate Judiciary Committee Weighs Civil Rights Bill Action

Senate Judiciary Committee met in closed session to decide how to proceed after the House-passed civil rights bill was kept from the Senate floor.
