Gerwin Shoe Factory Construction Delayed at Brownstown
A new Gerwin Shoe Company plant in Brownstown faces about a three week delay due to steel shortages. The 20,000 square foot concrete block facility on Venice Road will be built by Lucas Ackerman Supply Co under a development corporation contract. The project is Brownstown’s first new industry since 1948 and was funded by the chamber of commerce deeded property.

Ninth District Backs Birch Bayh for Senate Nomination
Birch E. Bayh Jr. of Terre Haute won the 1962 Democratic nomination for U S Senate at the state convention with 1 982 votes. Mayor Charles Boswell received 459, M Jack Edwards 106. Bayh will oppose Republican Homer Capehart in November. The Ninth District backed Bayh 146 to 19 for Boswell and 1 for Edwards. Delegates totaled 169, all but three voting due to illness.

Two Men Injured In Softball Accidents
Two Seymour men were treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital Friday and later released after softball injuries. Russell Gregory aged 20 of 1037 West Jackson Street received stitches for a knee wound from being spiked at Gaiser Park around 9:55 p m. Donald Scott aged 30 of 411 Carter Boulevard had X rays at 1:30 p m for a right ankle injury from a game the night before.

ASC Community Committees To Be Elected By Townships
Jackson County announces boundary lines for 1962 ASC community elections to be held this summer across 12 communities aligned with township borders. Brownstown Pool Thriving After Memorial Day Opening
Since opening on Memorial Day the Brownstown Swimming Pool attracts about 275 daily, with attendance rising to around 300 on Sundays. Over 5 500 patrons had used the pool by June 18, said Roy C. Paul, president of the pool corporation. The facility meets Olympic and AAU standards and operates daily from 1 to 8 30 p m on weekdays and 1 to 6 p m Sundays. Lessons and team practice run 8 30 a m to 1 p m weekdays as private and Scouting group programs begin, with adult lessons 7 to 8 p m Thursdays. Coach Hal V Driver leads the new Brownstown team practicing each morning, aiming for late August competition in age graded groups.

A 1 year old Seymour youth was arrested at 12 40 p m Friday in the 100 block of St Louis avenue on a charge of reckless driving. The charge was filed in Seymour City Court. Arrested by Officer Paul M Cooper was Russell Lee Ackeret who was slated to appear in court today. Ackeret was arrested on a warrant.

Dump Truck Damaged In Junction Collision
A 1952 model dump truck sustained about 150 dollars in damage in a 4 20 p m Friday crash at the junction of U S 50 and 31 east of Seymour. The dump truck driven by Irvin Allman 39 of Freetown stopped at a red signal when a semi driven by Cecil King of Harrodsburg Ky turned left onto U S 50 and struck the dump truck in the rear.
