Serena Evaline Bebout 77 lifelong Jackson county resident died Sunday afternoon at her Freetown home after years of poor health. Funeral services set for 1 30 PM Tuesday at Freetown Christian Church with Rev L D Cooley. Burial in Freetown Cemetery. Survived by four children, a granddaughter, two great grandchildren, two sisters and a host of relatives.

Over the weekend in Indiana and surrounding areas at least ten people died in violent incidents. Among the fatalities were Paul Ganson of Indianapolis in a drowning incident near St. Marys Ohio and a double drowning at Lake Wawasee near Syracuse involving a father and son. Also killed were Army airmen John Wood and James Bilby in a field crash west of Indianapolis and race driver Clay Corbett in the opening of a new Salem track. Another Cincinnati resident, Azad Sarkisian, died when his car overturned.

A tanker explosion near Wilmington California killed two and possibly 14 as fire ripped through docks.
