Postmaster H Lett in Seymour announces July 1 changes to postal rates. Card rates drop from two cents to one cent for private and souvenir postals. newspapers charged one cent per two ounces. Parcel post, publicity library books, and special handling see per-pound and per-package shifts. Registry limits rise to 1000 dollars with a single dollar fee.
Comedy act Sweet William and Bad Bill perform in Chicago parts three and four at Estel H Hancock Music and Radio Co 329d. The Brunswick Record label promotes a humorous duo with fresh material.
Organ piano music at St Paul church to be performed Sunday morning. The service features a meditative rendition of The Shepherd Psalm with congregational participation expected.
G C Borcherding, a Jackson county peach grower, says the peach crop will be well below normal due to two freezes. Early varieties will ripen in about two weeks with May flowers first, lasting into September for larger freestones and late varieties. Overall harvest to fill three months of orchard work amid lingering lowland and highland damage.
Louis VonStrohe age 82 died Friday night at his daughter’s home in Columbus after a several week illness. He was born in Germany May 29 1846 and came to America in 1867. Funeral services will be held at the Leesman home and at the Waymansville Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the nearby cemetery. The death follows a January fire that destroyed his home and store in Waymansville.
Isaac Newton Reedy aged 75 died at his Freetown home Friday night after a long illness. He was born there August 22 1852 and lived his life in the community. Survived by wife Margaret MecKain eight children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral 2 30 oclock Sunday at U B church with burial in Freetown cemetery.
Mrs. T. F. Fitzgibbons widow of the deceased schoolman T. Fitzgibbons who died in a wreck near Indianapolis died at the home of Mrs. George Schmitt in Columbus Friday night after suffering a paralytic stroke the day after her husband’s death. Funeral services and burial will be in Columbus Monday afternoon.
Seymour Reds Second team hosts Medora at Gaiser Park Sunday at 2 30 p m local time in a baseball clash.
Reports from all parts of the county indicate the early potato crop this year will be the largest on record. Cool weather delayed growth but the last three weeks brought plenty of rain and warmth, boosting tuber set and promising a strong late crop for next year’s seed and winter supply.

John Pfaffenberger of 203 South Poplar Street lost his left hand four inches above the wrist when it was caught in a saw at about 9:30 AM. He was rushed to Schneck Memorial Hospital for immediate surgery and his condition remained serious. His son Roy, who helped his father, had earlier lost three fingers at Noblitt Sparks Industries in a separate incident.
The Russian icebreaker Maligin reported weak signals at 1 p.m. that were thought to originate from the Farman seaplane carrying Roald Amundsen, missing for five days. The Maligin was 19 miles southeast of the Hope Islands while diverting from Archangel to Northeasternland to search for the six aboard.
United Press reports a vast graft plot in Chicago involving thirty dry agents paid over 100000 dollars in bribes. The probe follows the Roy Swanson and Samuel Weinberg trial for diverting 100000 gallons of government allotted alcohol and selling it to recookers for bootleg products. Swanson kept a "little black book" recording payments and a government case suggests 80 cents of each dollar stayed local while 20 cents touched officials in Chicago and Washington. Swanson faces two years. he cooperated to expose the scheme.
