Teacher Contracts Ratified By Seymour Schools

The Seymour Education Association unanimously ratified the 1976-77 teacher contracts after the Seymour school board approved salary proposals. Beginning salaries rise to 8850 for bachelors, 9350 for masters, with higher tops after specified years. agreement reached after stalled talks.

County Plans Mosquito Spray Program Across County

County commissioners agreed to seek funds for chemicals and incidentals to start a county wide mosquito control program led by Robert Gatte the county sanitarian. He outlined three methods including spray guns for weeds portable back mounted units for small areas road side units on pickups and aerial spraying for large swampy zones. The meeting also covered next year’s budget and estimates for fair ground repairs jail and courthouse work with experts from Southern Indiana Engineering and an architect.

O'ville Board Hires Teachers and Extends Contract

The Metropolitan School District of Vernon Township hired Randall Kerkhoff as vocational agriculture instructor and Sandy Brummett as elementary teacher. Walter Pevier, auto mechanic instructor, had his contract extended from nine to ten months. The board ordered wheels reattached to rolling coat racks to prevent floor scratches.

Highway Equipment Sale Set for August in Seymour District

Indiana Highway Commission will auction excess equipment at 10 a.m. August 5 at the Scottsburg unit office. Items include dump trucks, a pickup, a Chevrolet carryall, tractors, spreaders and snowplows. Four district sales are planned this summer with inspections offered the week prior and before 8 a.m. sale day. bidders must register and use certified payments.

Road To Close on U S 31 Near Ind 7 Bartholomew County

The State Highway Department said U S 31 one mile south of Ind 7 in Bartholomew County will close at 7 a m on Wednesday to remove railroad tracks crossing the highway. The road will reopen in the late afternoon after the work is finished.

Town Boards Convene in Brownstown for Southeast Indiana Round Table

Twenty four town board members from Georgetown Osgood Clarksville Medora Crothersville and Brownstown gathered at the Brownstown senior citizens building for a quarterly Round Table. Indiana Commerce head Jim Linse urged creation of Economic Development Commissions and noted Indy’s file of town land for industry. Next meeting set for Aug 17 in Clarksville.
