Two Hurt In One Of Several Area Crashes

A 28 year old Wallonia man and his 21 year old wife injured in a one car crash Saturday night when their 1958 sedan struck a bridge near Jackson County Sales Barn. Both were admitted then released the same night. the car was a total loss. Other crashes occurred Sunday in Austin and near Seymour, involving multiple vehicles and injuries.

Mishap Halts 100 MPH Police Chase Near Seymour

Seymour police pursued a light colored Chevrolet on US 31 A and Second Street before the hood burst open at high speed. Officers James Booker and Calvin W. Theele reported speeds over 100 mph as they followed the fleeing car toward the city edge. A roadside roadblock was set near the US 31 A and Ind 58 junction but the vehicle outran it. Deputies and county authorities continued searching for the Columbus plate car and its driver.

Sex Offender Is Ruled Sane-Fined and Suspended Sentence

Ronald Everett Lewis of Seymour was ruled sane after doctors could not agree on his mental status. He was fined 50 dollars and costs and given a six month suspended sentence to the Indiana state farm for a public indecency charge after pleading guilty. An Indianapolis couple, Earl and Myrtle Sage, changed pleas to guilty on alcohol and accident charges. Sage received 100 dollar fines and suspended sentences, with drug license suspension advised for the second count. Four divorces were granted in circuit court, including Barbara Campbell from Ellis Campbell and Catherine Koontz from Archie Koontz.

Robbery Suspect In Brown County Jail Transfer

Bedford robbery suspect Noble Wayne Beavers was moved to the county jail in Brownstown for safe keeping on a Lawrence County Court motion. Gil bert Cook, indicted check forger and insurance fraud suspect, was transferred from the Indiana State Reformatory after flight from bond.

60th Anniversary Festivities Of Seymour Elks Planned

Plans for the Seymour Lodge No. 462 Elks 60th anniversary week include a Tuesday dinner dance with Warren Covington and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, a Wednesday ladies tea and stag party, Friday fashion shows and games, and a Saturday banquet with Leonard Imel and Moose Muessel Band. The lodge began with 26 members in 1899 and has grown to 1342 with 52 exalted rulers.

Four white youths convicted of raping a Negro coed in Florida received life sentences from Circuit Judge W May Walker. The jury had recommended mercy. death by electric chair was avoided.
