Jackson county harvest under way shows wheat yield around 15 to 16 bushels per acre on about 18 000 acres. Factors from last fall through spring floods reduced acreage and yields though some fields in clay regions recover well. Barley and oats also down while corn acreage remains large at about 30 000 acres.
Washington June 22 Chief J Edgar Hoover warns against sharing military information with uniformed men. He cites 413 imposters convicted in the past 11 months versus 97 the year before. He urges requests be by bona fide officers who can identify themselves.
The Goodyear company has developed a static eliminator now deployed by military forces described as excellent. The general public will have to wait until after the war to benefit from it.
The 112th Indiana Methodist Conference meets in Greensburg from Wednesday through Sunday. Bishop Titus Lowe will preside and deliver sermons on The Name Above Every Name. An ordination, appointments, and notable addresses by Isaac Foote and others are scheduled, with Governor Schricker and Dr. Karl Quimby among speakers. The event opens with services and ends with a General Conference delegate ballot.

Everett Vawter president of West Lafayette Water Works died at age 83. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 3 PM. Vawter was formerly proprietor of the Lafayette Bridge Company in Lafayette Indiana.
Madison will be photographed for publication in metropolitan papers and national magazines after being chosen by the office of war information as the typical American town. Writers and photographers from local papers and The Associated Press, plus Life magazine, plan features and color-ready material to showcase Madison. The OWI film will be shown abroad to illustrate democracy, with a 32 language script.
Field examiners from the Office of Defense Transportation will be in Jackson County for the first three days of July to assist commercial vehicle operators with war necessity certificates. Contact the county farm transportation committee for appointments. operators appealing should bring at least thirty days of operating records. Examiners will be at Brownstown July 1 and 2 and in the county seat July 3.
Funeral services for Harry W. Bassett a Jonesville native and former Indiana legislator will be held in Indianapolis with burial at Crown Hill. He died Sunday in St Luke's hospital Chicago at age 67 and served as Chicago district deputy commissioner of the U. S. Employees Compensation commission. Bassett represented Marion county in 1908 and was active in Democratic politics and labor affairs. He published The Union and was survived by his widow two daughters a grandson two brothers and a sister.
The AP report notes about 4,600 Merchant seamen lost since October 1941 and cites Metropolitan Life Insurance data that 7,000 civilians drowned in 1942. It urges safer boating and swimming skills to save lives and reduce the high death toll.
London reports two waves of United States Flying Fortresses struck Recklinghausen rubber works in the Ruhr and the former General Motors plant at Antwerp. Twenty Fortresses were lost, many German fighters shot down. Washington says Liberator raids against Japanese positions in the Solomon Islands occurred Sunday evening with results not yet observed.
Pvt. Hugo Claycamp aged 19 of Jonesville died at 6 a.m. Monday after three months illness at McCaw General Hospital in Walla Walla Washington. Born March 22 1923 in Cortland he was a Columbus High School 1942 graduate and a Jonesville Lutheran Church member. He entered the army March 13. Survived by his parents and grandparents. Funeral arrangements pending.
Richard L Bollinger son of Mr and Mrs Don A Bollinger of South Chestnut street will leave Wednesday for Annapolis Maryland to take final entrance examination to the United States Naval Academy He was appointed by Representative Earl Wilson and has qualified by examination at Indianapolis and passed the preliminary physical exam A further physical examination is to occur
Washington reports more than one quarter of the nation’s 32 000 saw mills were idle in May due to log, manpower, and equipment shortages. The War Production Board notes small mills accounted for eighty six percent of the idle group.
Allied air power hits Germany in a peak offensive with daylight raids on the Ruhr and targets in Belgium. American heavy bombers, supported by RAF and Dominion fighters, engage German defenses as 700 RAF four engine bombers strike Krefeld. Berlin reports heavy destruction while invasion talk intensifies and Allied plans move forward.
